Watch England's Windsor Park 7-2 win over Ireland in 1946

Published 06/07/2015

September 28 1946 saw almost 57,000 fans turn out at Windsor Park to see Ireland take on England.

After fans flooded the pitch attempting to get a glimpse of the sold out match, it took police, the referee and a radio announcer to get the fans behind the pitch lines.

The game was then able to proceed.

Tom Finney, Tommy Lawton, Raich Carter and Bobby Langton all scored for England in the game but the undisputed star was Wilf Mannion, who got a hat-trick.

Ireland succeeded in scoring two goals but the match was described as 'a walk-over' and many fans couldn't bear to stay to the end.
