Jeff Bridges said he'd always admired Maggie Gyllenhaal's acting talent

Jeff Bridges has revealed he wanted Maggie Gyllenhaal to play his love interest in Crazy Heart because he'd always "admired her acting".

The Hollywood star - who scooped the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as alcoholic country musician Bad Blake - said Maggie was top of his wish list to play the young reporter he falls for.

He said: "I've been following her, she's a great actress, she disappears into the role and becomes that person. She was on the top of my list of actresses that I kind of imagined in that role."

Jeff, 60, had no qualms about the age-gap on screen between him and 32-year-old Maggie.

"I thought about having a more age-appropriate relationship, but somehow the story didn't lend itself to that, it was better to be this way," he said.

"As far as how that felt, I mean, I think of myself as 25," he laughed.

"I can't believe I'm 60 years old, come on!"

:: Crazy Heart is in cinemas now.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
