George Clooney is planning a telethon for earthquake victims

George Clooney is set to stage a telethon for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The Up In The Air star is working with MTV Networks on the telethon.

An MTV spokesman said details are still being worked out.

Clooney's representative said the actor is in the process of helping organise the telethon, which would be likely to air on January 22 on all MTV Networks.

Several Hollywood stars have been calling for support for victims of the disaster.

Doctors Without Borders announced that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were contributing one million dollars to the organisation's emergency medical operations.

And Oprah Winfrey began her TV talk show earlier this week by asking viewers to donate to the Red Cross.

"This is a time where we, as a global nation, should come together and support those who are in need," she said.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin urged people to donate to a Haiti appeal set up by Oxfam. He said when he visited Haiti with the charity a few years ago he found a country "of extreme poverty and brutal living conditions".

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
