Denise Van Outen and Sharon Osbourne were among the celebrities who turned out for an awards ceremony honouring people who make a positive difference in the lives of children.

Judges including Sarah Brown, Emma Bunton, Peter Andre, Dame Kelly Holmes, Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Christine Bleakley and Angela Griffin have chosen the winners of the News of the World Children's Champions Awards from nominations made by members of the public.

The awards recognise unsung heroes from around the country.

Celebrities attending the event, which is supported by Barnardo's and the Post Office, included Denise Van Outen, Sharon Osbourne, Ross Kemp and The Inbetweeners star Emily Atack.

The event, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, will be shown on Wednesday March 10 at 8pm on Sky1 HD and Sky1.

It will be hosted by Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans.
