Victoria Hart has launched a talent search for an all-girl big band

Victoria Hart, the former cocktail waitress who sang for George Clooney, has launched an X-Factor style hunt to put together a sexy all-female big band.

The blonde jazz singer said she was "devastated" when reports appeared last November that she had turned to working in a strip club.

But, wearing a strapless red frock cinched in at the waist, she said she would be using what she had learned to positive effect in her latest venture - by "incorporating lots of burlesque into the show".

The 21-year-old, who has drawn comparisons with Marilyn Monroe, is on a nationwide talent hunt for 18 glamorous women aged between 18 and 30 who can be her backing band. The singer said she wanted to find "an army of beautiful girls who have the same happy-go-lucky attitude as me".

She went on: "I want them to be really diverse and unique and to have their own sense of style. They should pick a song that's going to be retro and sexy.

"I really want it to be so much fun. I love the whole '40s era, that kind of glamorous thing."

Victoria enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame after being spotted at a restaurant in London, where she worked as a singing waitress.

She was asked to perform a medley of jazz ballads at a glitzy yacht party in Cannes in front of stars including George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Her success seemed sealed in 2007 when she signed a record deal put at £1.5 million.

The talent search is being hosted on her website www.victoriahart.co.uk.

The West is horrified by children's slaughter now. Soon we'll forget

Bashar al-Assad will get away with it. He got away with Deraa. He got away with Homs. And he'll get away with Houla. So will the armed opposition to the regime, along with al-Qa'ida and any other outfits joining in Syria's tragedy.

Why my kids feel Olympics are not the real thing now

I did quite well in my school exams, but the only thing for which I can confidently say I stood out like a beacon among my fellow pupils was my record-breaking 100-metres dash.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
