Mackenzie Crook will not be in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean

Mackenzie Crook has revealed he is not appearing in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

The Office star has played hapless pirate Ragetti in the first three instalments of Jerry Bruckheimer's hit Hollywood blockbusters starring Johnny Depp, but told The Independent he has not been asked to appear in the next film.

Mackenzie said: "They haven't asked me, but actually I don't mind that at all - I'm a fan of the first one especially and I think the trilogy we've made is great, I'd almost like them to leave it there."

The 38-year-old actor, who played geeky Gareth in ground-breaking BBC comedy The Office which ran for just two series, likes to quit while he's ahead.

He said: "I'm a big fan of that. If people want more, then, sure, give them more if you can keep the standard. Quite possibly they do and quite possibly they can, so that's great. But my pirating days are over."

Mackenzie - who is currently starring on the West End stage in Jerusalem - enjoyed his blockbuster experience, and even has a skull and cross-bones tattoo to remember it by, but confesses he missed his wife and son and London home while filming on location.

He said: "It wasn't the Caribbean holiday that everyone imagines. There were times when it was quite tough ... when you're in the Bahamas in a resort for months on end, you start going crazy, become an alcoholic ... I went fishing a bit.

"But after a while this depression would start creeping in. You're in this tropical paradise but you can't be bothered to go out and do anything at all."

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
