2,500 physical abuse incidents reported to Women's Aid

Tuesday, 2 December 2008

The Women's Aid support group says more than 2,500 incidents of physical domestic abuse were reported to its helpline last year.

The incidents included being tied up, locked in a room for days, being burned, punched or beaten with weapons and being shot at.

Women's Aid says 49% of women injured by their partners required medical treatment, and 10% needed a hospital stay.

Women's Aid is currently running a 16-day action campaign opposing violence against women.
