Irish Rail unveils details of underground DART plans

Thursday, 28 June 2007

Iarnrod Eireann has announced further details of its planned new underground DART line linking Heuston Station to the Dublin docklands.

The €1.3bn initiative, which forms part of the Government's Transport 21 proposals, also includes an extension of DART services to Maynooth and Balbriggan.

Under the scheme, a new DART line will branch off the existing tracks into the docklands before going underground to Pearse Station, St Stephen's Green, Christchurch and Heuston.

Iarnrod Eireann says the expansion will be completed by 2015 and will quadruple Dublin's rail passenger capacity to 100 million people every year.

The plans are due to go on display next Tuesday and Wednesday at Civic Offices in Dublin.
