50 Orange Order halls attacked since start of July

Thursday, July 19, 2007

The Orange Order says 50 of its halls in the North have been attacked since the beginning of July.

The Order says it is worried about the upsurge in such incidents, despite this year being one of the most peaceful Twelfth of Julys ever.

Grand secretary Drew Nelson is calling on political and community leaders to hand over any information they have about the attacks, which he says are raising tensions.

Sinn Feins' Martin McGuinness has already condemned what he says are "idiotic" actions and has called on those responsible to stop immediately.
