World experts to attend suicide conference in Killarney

Monday, August 27, 2007

Experts from across the world are due to discuss the issue of suicide at a special conference in Killarney, Co Kerry, this week.

The event is being described as an opportunity for Irish charities and support groups to learn about the latest studies into suicide by international professionals.

Delegates from the World Health Organisation and the World Psychiatric Association will be amongst the 700 or so experts attending.

The conference follows a recent study that found Ireland's suicide rate may be higher than previously thought.

The study concluded that around 600 people take their own lives in the Republic every year.
