Irish talking and texting more then ever

Sunday, 9 September 2007

New figures show we are using our mobile phones more than ever.

Overall the electronic communications market in Ireland is now worth over four and a half billion euro a year

According to the latest quarterly report from ComReg - the communications regulator we now own 4.8 million mobile phones.

Between the beginning of April and the end of June we sent almost 1.8 billion texts or a monthly average of 123 messages each.

We are also talking more than ever on our mobiles - spending 2.13 billion minutes on calls from them compared to 2.35 billion minutes on calls from landlines.

The figures also show the continued growth of broadband with 700,000 subscribers here at the end of June and lap top subscriptions accounting for 45,000 of them.
