Figures show further fall-off in mortgage lending

Friday, 28 September 2007

The Central Bank has reported a further fall-off in mortgage lending as the property market continues to slow down.

The bank says the total mortgage lending in August was 17% higher than in the same month last year.

This means the annual growth rate has now fallen by one percentage each month since the beginning of this year.

Elsewhere, total lending to private individuals and companies was up by €4bn in August, bringing outstanding debt levels to almost €352bn.
