Dingle pupils protest against Irish language policy
Monday, October 15, 2007
Up to 60 pupils have reportedly mounted a protest outside a school in Co Kerry where a controversial decision has been made to teach all classes through Irish.
The students at Pobailscoil Chorca Dhuibhne in Dingle say they are finding it difficult to learn through Irish because they do not have a full grasp of the language.
The school came into being through the amalgamation of Dingle CBS and Meanscoil na Toirbhithe, where subjects were taught through English.
At least one female student from Russia has already been forced to move to a school in Tralee because of the Irish-language policy.
