No evidence of collusion in murder of Catholic brothers
Tuesday, 30 October 2007
The Police Ombudsman in the North has concluded that there is no evidence of security force collusion in the murder of two Catholic brothers 14 years ago.
Nuala O'Loan mounted an investigation after receiving a complaint from the family Gerard and Rory Cairns.
The pair, aged 22 and 18, were shot dead by the UVF at their family home in Bleary, Co Armagh, in October 1993.
Their family claimed the police and army had prior knowledge of the attack and allowed the murderers to carry out the killings.
They also claimed the police failed to carry out a proper investigation.
However, Ms O'Loan says that, while the initial investigation was flawed, she has found no evidence to back up the collusion claims.
