Remembrance Day marred by bomb hoax in Enniskillen

Sunday, 11 November 2007

Bomb hoaxers in the north have tried to disrupt Remembrance Day services.

In Enniskillen a large area of the town was sealed off while the security forces carried out searches after receiving a bomb warning.

They gave the all clear just in time for hundreds of people, including relatives of those killed in the 1987 bombing at the site, to go ahead with the service.

Meanwhile a security alert was mounted in Newry, Co Down after a loud bang was heard as crowds were dispersing at the end of their act of remembrance.

There have been no reported injuries and an examination of the area is being carried out to establish what had caused the noise.
