Gardai describe Athlone attack as vicious

Monday, December 31, 2007

Gardai have described last night's attack on a couple in Athlone as vicious.

The 20 year old man and the woman, who is in her late teens, were at home at Roslevin Lawns near the town centre, when two youths broke in the door of their house and attacked the couple with stanley knives.

The couple was then tied up and some of their property was stolen.

Two men in their late teens were later arrested and are being detained at Athlone Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The young man and woman sustained minor injuries in the attack and are recovering this afternoon.
