Man remains in serious condition after Athlone crash

A man is still in a serious condition in hospital this afternoon after being knocked down by a car in Co. Westmeath.

The 22-year-old pedestrian suffered serious head injuries after he was struck by a car on the Dublin Road in Athlone just before midnight.

The driver of the car , an 18-year-old man, was arrested by Gardai at the scene but has since been released and a file is being prepared for the D.P.P.

Meanwhile, Gardai have named the 30-year-old man who lost his life in a road crash in Co. Monaghan yesterday.

David Carolan from Ballyjamesduff in Co. Cavan died when his motorbike hit a wall at Drumbear.
