TUI rejects need for cuts in education funding
Wednesday, 26 March 2008
The Teachers Union of Ireland says it does not accept that spending on education must be cut back due to the current economic downturn.
Education Minister Mary Hanafin is due to address the union's annual conference in Wexford today after telling the INTO and ASTI yesterday that economic circumstances will not allow her to honour the Government's funding commitments for education.
The TUI says Ms Hanafin herself will receive a polite reception today, but her policy of spending cuts will be rejected by delegates at the conference.
