IMO seeks timeline for hiring of 1,500 new consultants

Saturday, March 29, 2008

The Irish Medical Organisation says it wants a timeline for the HSE to honour its promise to employ 1,500 new hospital consultants.

The draft contract under which the consultants will be employed is due to be discussed at the organisation's AGM in Co Kerry today.

The IMO says the draft comes close to ending four years of negotiations on plans to make specialist hospital doctors work more flexible hours.

However, it is accusing the HSE of deliberately delaying agreement on the contract in order to save money by postponing the hiring of new consultants.
