Vintners to oppose reduction in drink-driving limits
Monday, May 12, 2008
The Vintners Federation of Ireland is expected to oppose calls for a reduction in drink-driving limits at its annual conference in Carlow today.
A recent survey by road safety campaigners found that 99% of people favour a reduction in the current blood-alcohol limit, while 59% favour a zero limit.
The VFI, however, is expected to argue that the move would target people who have just one drink and who are not a danger on the roads.
It is also expected to argue that reducing the limit would have an adverse effect on rural life.
