Further Garda evidence in Omagh bomb civil case
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
A second detective Garda has told the Omagh Bomb Civil Case that he saw Louth man Michael McKevitt and FBI agent David Rupert coming out of a house together in Dundalk in February 2000.
The detective said he observed intelligence agent David Rupert and Michael McKevitt who is serving 20 years for directing terrorism going into and leaving the house.
The detective added he was told beforehand it was possible they would be attending a meeting of the Real IRA.
He said he made his statement in early 2001 after Michael McKevitt was arrested.
Fifty Gardai who were involved in the investigation into the 1998 atrocity have been summonsed to appear before District Court Judge Conal Gibbons who is presiding over the hearing of their evidence at the Four Courts in Dublin.
This hearing is taking place in Dublin at the formal request of the overall trial judge in the North Mr. Justice Declan Morgan.
Justice Morgan who is in attendance told lawyers for the five defendants this morning that he will hear any objections they have in relation to questions put to the witnesses when the hearing moves back to Belfast.
In the meantime the parties have said they are prepared to reach agreement on what questions will be asked here.
The civil action has been taken by relatives of the Omagh bomb victims against five men and the Real IRA as an organisation for damages suffered as a result of the bombing.
The five defendants Michael McKevitt, Colm Murphy, Liam Campbell, Seamus Daly and Seamus McKenna all deny any involvement in the atrocity.
