Half of all Irish adults have private health insurance, according to figures published today by the Health Insurance Authority.
The authority says a survey it commissioned has found that consumers rank health insurance as the second most important employment benefit, behind a pension.
This sentiment was echoed by employers, 84% of whom said they believed health insurance was an important benefit for employees.
