Immigrants 'face barriers reporting sexual assault'
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre says foreign immigrants account for around one-tenth of people seeking help following rapes and sexual assaults.
However, it says foreign nationals are often discouraged from coming forward due to language and cultural difficulties.
The centre is launching a training programme and handbook today for interpreters who work with victims and is also publishing an information booklet in six different languages.
