Psychiatric nurses to examine new LRC proposals
Thursday, May 15, 2008
The Labour Relations Commission has put forward proposals aimed at resolving the dispute over compensation for psychiatric nurses who are attacked at work.
Members of SIPTU and the Psychiatric Nurses Association have been refusing to work overtime for the past two weeks as part of the dispute, leading to ward closures at mental health facilities across the country.
The two unions have been holding talks with the HSE at the LRC, which last night put forward its recommendations for ending the stand-off.
The proposals include substantial increases in compensation for nurses who are injured at work and an increase in the type of injuries that are covered by the scheme.
Both sides are expected to examine the recommendations in the coming days.
