SIPTU officials to discuss latest Aer Lingus move

Thursday, May 15, 2008

SIPTU shop stewards at Aer Lingus are due to meet this morning to discuss the latest development in the dispute over the airline's cost-cutting plan.

The meeting follows a decision by management last night to press ahead with controversial work practice reforms despite the opposition of employees.

Ground staff attached to SIPTU rejected the reforms in a recent ballot and have also voted to take strike action if Aer Lingus tries to make the changes unilaterally.

However, management informed staff last night that it intends to implement the changes over the coming weeks in all areas except loading.

Pilots and cabin crew have already voted to accept separate reforms as part of the €20m cost-cutting plan.
