Workers to picket Dail over closure of language centres

Thursday, 3 July 2008

SIPTU members are planning to picket the Dail today in protest at the Government's decision to stop funding an English language training centre for immigrants.

Integrate Ireland Language and Training says it will have to close as a result of the decision, with the loss of 44 jobs.

Staff from the nine IILT centres around the country are due to attend today's protest.

SIPTU says the centres have provided an invaluable service over the past five years and VECs are not equipped to take over the work.
