Man charged in court over fatal Antrim car chase crash
Friday, 4 July 2008
A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of his friend in a car crash yesterday after trying to evade the police in the early hours of the morning in County Antrim.
Anthony Wilson, aged 25, died when the car, in which he was a passenger, careered off the road into a field between Belfast and Lisburn at 2am.
In court was Joseph Thomas Brennan who is accused of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, having disposable gloves for use in a burglary and driving while disqualified.
A detective told the court he believed he could connect the accused to the charges.
Mr Brennan has denied he was the driver of the stolen car and his solicitor said during the short hearing that he had consistently maintained this during police questioning.
Mr Brennan was remanded in custody. His next hearing is on the 22nd of July.
