Dept of Transport to crackdown on unlicensed hauliers
Friday, 4 July 2008
The Department of Transport has indicated it will crackdown on unlicensed drivers who hauliers have warned are undermining the industry.
Officials from the department met the Irish Road Haulage Association for two hour talks today to discuss their problems.
Top of the agenda was the issue of rising fuel costs.
President of the Association Jimmy Quinn said the government would not commit on financial help, but will consider it further and meet members of the association again on Monday.
But Mr Quinn has said that that he is satisfied that progress had been made in other areas.
