Huge profits 'undermine calls for wage restraint'
Wednesday, 2 July 2008
The UNITE trade union claims to have uncovered evidence that undermines the business community's latest calls for wage restraint.
The union says Irish companies are as profitable as ever and are making average profits of almost €46,000 per employee.
UNITE says this is 55% higher than the average in the 15 countries that made up the EU before the expansion of 2004.
It also says Irish wages are 25% lower than those in the wealthiest EU countries.
