Mandate says low paid must receive wage increases

The Mandate trade union says it will be impossible to reach agreement in the current round of pay talks unless the issue of low-paid workers is addressed.
The union, which represents 44,000 workers in the wholesale and retail sector, says substantial flat-rate pay increases for this group will be necessary.
It has published a document today showing that these workers are the lowest paid in the country, taking home less than €22,000-a-year.
Mandate says calls for wage restraint are unjustified as two of the major retail companies in Ireland recently announced profits of up to €2bn.
