Fresh fears for jobs at Seagate plant in Derry
Tuesday, 13 January 2009
Fresh job fears are being expressed at a US-owned technology firm in Derry after workers were asked to attend a meeting with management tomorrow.
Staff at the Seagate plant, which employs 1,400 people, were put on unpaid leave at Christmas and 45 part-time contracts were not renewed.
The company also shut down another plant in Limavady last September with the loss of 1,000 jobs.
However, management is insisting that it will not be announcing significant lay-offs at tomorrow's meeting.
