Experts investigate cause of salmonella outbreak

Tuesday, 5 August 2008

Food safety experts in Ireland and Britain are tying to trace the source of a salmonella outbreak that has infected 68 people in the past six months.

Eight people were infected in the Republic of Ireland between the end of June and early July, while 60 cases have been detected throughout the UK since February.

The investigation into the cause of the outbreak is understood to be focusing on meat and poultry products.

One company supplying catering ingredients has already withdrawn its produce from the market as a precautionary measure.
