HPV vaccine shelved

Tuesday, 4 November 2008

The Minister for Health Mary Harney has announced that due to current economic constraints, the rollout of the HPV vaccination programme will not go ahead.

The vaccine is given to young girls to help fight cervical cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society said it is very disappointed with the Health Minister's decision.

81 women died from cervical cancer in Ireland in 2007.

Good decision indeed !

The more I research the HPV vaccine, the more sure I am that we are being sold a vaccine based on junk science and lies.
If only the English & Scottish Government cared more about our girls.
Any one considering this HPV vaccine needs to think twice. Just knowing what is in this vaccine should be enough for you to know that it is not good news.
We are seeing the short term effects of Cervarix now - but what of the long term effects & fertility

Stop trusting drug companies

I want to applaud the Minister for Health Mary Harney for stopping a program that has the potential to harm many young girls of the beautiful country of Ireland.
I am a freelance journalist from the US and I know first hand what this vaccine has the potential to do. Here we now have 14015 reports of adverse events in 27 months and this is only 1-10% of girls affected.
Three days ago I received an email from a distraught mother from the UK asking me for help for her daughter severly affected by Cervarix. Their program just started in August of this year. How many more are going to have to suffer in the UK before they follow the path that Ireland has taken which is the right path.
The people of Ireland should be proud of their Health Minister in that it took strength and resolve to put the people first. Let the long term studies dictate whether this vaccine is safe. The money spent on the vaccine would be better served in providing yearly pap smears. Thank you Ireland.
