Irish Cancer Society criticises scrapping of vaccine plan
Thursday, 27 November 2008
The Chief Executive of the Irish Cancer Society has said the Health Minister does not fully grasp the consequences of her decision to scrap the roll out of a cervical cancer vaccine for young girls.
Earlier this month, Mary Harney abandoned plans to vaccinate all 12-year-old girls because of "very scarce health resources".
Around 80 women die from cervical cancer each year.
John McCormack said Minister Harney does not understand that people's lives are at risk.
