Junior Minister Power tells UN 'Ireland won't shirk on foreign aid'
Sunday, 30 November 2008
Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Overseas Development Peter Power has told a UN conference that Ireland will fulfil its commitments on providing foreign aid.
The Minister made the comments while addressing world leaders and delegates at the meeting in Doha, Qatar, aimed at assessing the global financial crisis.
Minister Power said Ireland remains on course to reach its target of 0.7% of GNP by 2012.
He also said the world's poor and hungry people should not be the victims of a financial meltdown they did not create.
