Jury in Collins trial given option to return majority verdict

Tuesday, 25 November 2008

The jury in the trial of former world champion boxer Steve Collins has been given the option to return a majority verdict.

The foreman informed Judge Desmond Hogan shortly before 7pm this evening that it was unlikely they would reach a unanimous decision where all twelve agreed on a verdict.

44-year-old Collins, who has an address in England, denies assaulting an Albanian bouncer when he was refused entry into the National Stadium in Dublin in 2006.

The ex-boxer claims he was acting in self defence.

The jury retired to consider its verdict at 3.50pm this afternoon.
