Police arrest ETA activist ahead of court appearance
Monday, 17 November 2008
Police in the North have formally arrested a 53-year-old Basque man wanted for allegedly praising terrorism in Spain.
ETA activist Iñaki de Juana Chaos is being detained until a court appearance in Belfast later today.
He was arrested by agreement this morning on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued last week by the Spanish authorities.
The 53-year-old has served 21 years in prison for multiple murders in Spain, but was released earlier this year and moved to Ireland, where he has been living with sympathisers.
He is accused of subsequently writing a letter praising terrorist activities which was read out at an ETA gathering in Spain.
