1,400 schools on waiting lists for repair works

Fine Gael says there are nearly 1,400 schools around the country on waiting lists for repair work.
The party has obtained figures from the Department of Education.
Two-thirds of the schools are in critical need of repairs and many have been waiting for approval for building works for between 10 and 15 years.
Fine Gael's education spokesperson Brian Hayes says their needs must not be ignored due to the downturn in the economy.
