UUP cleared of electoral malpractice

The Ulster Unionist Party has been cleared of electoral malpractice after accused of deliberately failsifying its accounts.
An investigation was launched by the Electoral Commission last year after claims that the party's treasurer had failed to disclose two bank accounts to the UUP's auditors.
However, the commission said today that it was now satisfied that the omission was an inadvertent oversight.
The UUP says it has since put stringent procedures in place to prevent ensure future compliance.
