Irish coast not susceptible to drug running - Justice Minister
Monday, 9 July 2007
The Justice Minister has dismissed suggestions that last week's record cocaine haul in Co Cork proves the Irish coastline is susceptible to drug running.
Brian Lenihan was responding to the seizure, which was made by Garda€ and the customs service, after a dinghy carrying the drugs ashore sank.
Minister Lenihan said the seizure should be viewed as a good news story.
He also said that he is in contact with both the Coast Guard and the Customs Service to see if they can better co-ordinate their surveillance efforts with Garda€.
