Taoiseach in Lisbon for talks on new EU Reform Treaty
Thursday, 18 October 2007
The Taoiseach and Minister for Foreign Affairs travel to Lisbon today for a summit to finalise the planned new EU treaty.
The so-called Reform Treaty is designed to replace the failed EU constitution that was rejected by Dutch and French voters.
One of its main aims is to simplify the EU decision-making process following the accession of 12 new member states in recent years.
If the treaty is finalised today, Irish voters could get their say in a referendum as early as next year.
