Taoiseach defends decentralisation

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

The Taoiseach has rejected opposition claims that the decentralisation programme is a complete shambles.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny had claimed in the Dail that a recent report from the OECD was highly critical of the Government scheme.

Brian Cowen said over 11,000 civil and public servants have applied to move under decentralisation and over 6,000 or 55% are based in Dublin.

The Taoiseach told the House that despite claims from the opposition, progress is being made.
