Poll shows increased support for FF and Govt

Friday, May 16, 2008

Fianna Fail and the Government have seen their support increase significantly in recent months, according to an opinion poll published this morning.

The Irish Times poll puts support for Fianna Fail at 42%, up eight points since the last survey in January.

Fine Gael is down five points to 26%, Labour up three points to 15%, Sinn Fein down two points to 6%, the Greens down two points to 4% and the PDs down two points to 1%.

Elsewhere, the Government's satisfaction rating has also risen 13 points to 48% since January, while the new Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, has a satisfaction rating of 52%.

Seventy per cent of respondents, meanwhile, said Bertie Ahern was correct to resign as Taoiseach earlier this month, while 65% said he still had questions to answer about his personal finances.
