Dept says expenses increase will not apply to politicians
Friday, 4 July 2008
The Department of Finance has declared that automatic increases in expenses for State employees apply only to civil servants and not to politicians.
A statement from the Department maintains there have been no increases in overnight or travel allowances for members of the Dail or Seanad since 2001.
Civil Servants are to receive the automatic increases however.
Earlier today, the Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said while the current round would not be stopped, automatic expenses increases might not be paid in the future.
