Thousands attend Belfast Gay Pride parade

Saturday, 2 August 2008

Thousands of people have attended today's Gay Pride parade in Belfast.

Members of the Free Presbyterian Church held at least two small protests around the parade but the afternoon passed off incident-free.

The parade was overshadowed by a row over comments on homosexuality made by DUP MP Iris Robinson.

She reportedly claimed gay sex was an abomination.

Today Alliance Party official Gerry Lynch reiterated demands for Mrs Robinson to resign as chair of the Stormont Health Committee.

Why is it that Christian views are always being lambasted and marginalised by so called enlightened people, why dont you who want to promote this kind of sinful , abominable practice be forced to resign from your job because of what you consider to be the correct opinion. We live in a democracy where we can speak our minds freely , and when you speak with the authority of scripture you have the greatest judge of all on your side.

And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorah, and towards all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo,the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
Genises 19:28

Its about time that Reformed Churches put their faith in the head of the Church ,our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ and took a strong stance against the wicked political correctness of this sinful world.

I personally was present at the united Christian witness at the front of Belfast City Hall. This was under the wing of The Congregational Reformed Church in the city and around 45 Christians from various reformed congregations in Ulster took part in the open air meeting for just over one hour prior to the Pride spectacle.

Our witness did not go unhindered but one of the speakers was interrupted and an attempt made to remove the Mic from our amplification equpment. At the beginning despite assurances we had no police protection. We plan God Willing that our witness will be bigger next year as we will not allow political correctness to silence us. Psalm 118 v 8

A message to Pastor Ralph Ovadal:

Don't feel too blessed because those people that were protesting were a very severe MINORITY of people in this generally accepting, cosmopolitan city.
I was in the city centre on Saturday and thought it was brilliant that so many diverse people watching the parade, and that the numbers were up so high this year, showing the support for the gay community.

Aronog, you find what Iris Robinson stated as disturbing because she only stated a Biblical truth. That is quite understandable and I trust that you will go back to the Bible and see what is there. You do not see any "...benifit to a diverse society where civil rights and liberties are for everyone." Well, what about God's rights and let's remember, this IS His world we live in and we were given the liberty to live here as He counseled for the betterment of all people. Yet, you fail to acknowledge that man wants to be Frank Sinatra and do it my way and not God's way. So, how can you complain when man has made his own bed hard and has to lie in it? You don't like to face the truth and reality of Psalm 81:10 - 12, where God steps back and let's man do his this when man makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with Him or His word. Don't complain when you have rejected the solution. Remember, God made this universe and man polluted it with sin. Read the Bible and see.

We here in America were very blessed to read of the Christian witness at the recent "gay pride" parade in Belfast. We truly thank the Lord for those in that corner of the world who raised a banner of truth against the perversion and deception of New Sodom.

I find the comments of iris robinson, very disturbing and harming, especially for someone in her position.
I do not believe that her comments will benefit to a diverse society where civil rights and liberties are for everyone.
Mrs Robinson should be repesenting all the people regardless off,and her religious opinions should not play a part in someone elses every day life.

Stan Sloan, I must have been away when "God wiped a few cities out" a few years ago. Which cities were these ? Goodness me, so Belfast is next then ? Well, it could do with a facelift to be frank. And we could make Derry the capital in the meantime. Except Derry's doing its own Gay Pride. Oh well, perhaps Armagh or somewhere like that ?

While reading your report on the gay pride parade in Belfast, I find myself confused and disillusioned with the stance of the Free Presbyterian Church. As a former member of the Free Presbyterian Church and a supporter of the DUP political party I now have to ask the question " is their opposition to this gay parade simply a face-saving measure ". I do accept that the individual christians taking part in the protest were genuine but those ministers who would participate in such protests in public seem to be able to turn a blind eye to those members and office bearers in their denomination who in private and in church say they disagree with homosexuality and that it is a sin before God, can then seemingly be happy enough on a Monday morning return to their desk job as politicans and fund this homosexual parade with public funds. Surely this is a hypocritical stance. Are these clergy men involved going to raise this matter at presbytery or else continue to tolerate double standards.

Sir,

There were a number of Christians upholding Biblical standards against New Sodom, apart from Free Presbyterians. As usual, the media try to denigrate Christians who actually adhere to Biblical truth. The fact that Christians have to have police protection whenever they witness at such events, speaks volumes. It is usual for us to have to listen to the most vile comments that ever issued from the mouths of human beings, as well as see the disgraceful spectacle of a "Gay Pride" parade, which reporters delight to call "colourful." Perhaps a timely reminder about what the Bible has to say of such events would be in order. " Who knowing the judgement of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1 vs 32. It is not only those who live a wicked lifestyle who come under the wrath of God, but those who condone such.

Yours sincerely,
David Carson.

Why should Iris be forced to resign because of her personal beliefs? As far as I know she has not broken any law. And thousands of people share her beliefs, are you going to throw all of them in jail?

what are they proud of ? the fact that thier lifestyle as infected millions world wide with a killer disease, or the fact that they have conned the public that what they do is an acceptable part of society?

The Free Presbyterian Church can take out a full page ad in the paper against "sodomy," but the Pride participants were cautioned about inflammatory signage?? Serious double standard.

God say,s it's an abomination and a few years ago he wiped a few cities out and it's getting pretty close for His next visit as people are beginning to to defiy God again with all the evil going on and kicking God out of every country , [so they think] God is still on the throne and the earth will feel His wrath very soon.
