Kubica leads F1 championship after Canada win

Monday, 9 June 2008

Poland's Robert Kubica has taken over the lead in the Formula One Drivers' Championship after winning the Canadian Grand Prix last night.

The BMW Sauber driver finished ahead of his team-mate, Nick Heidfeld, with Red Bull's David Coulthard claiming the final place on the podium.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton knocked himself and world championship Kimi Raikkonen out of the race when he smashed into the back of the Finn during a pit-lane collision.

The Englishman will suffer a 10-place grid penalty at the French Grand Prix as punishment for the shunt.

Last night's result means Kubica leads Hamilton and Felipe Massa by four points in the Drivers' Championship, with Raikkonen three points further back in fourth place.
