Hirvonen wins the Rally Turkey
Sunday, 15 June 2008
Mikko Hirvonen has won the Rally Turkey, after a dramatic final stage in the hills of Antalya.
The BP Ford Abu Dhabi driver saw off late challenges from his own teammate Jari Matti Latvala and World Champion Sebastien Loeb in his Citroen.
Loeb charged from the start of the final stage, taking more than ten seconds off the Ford drivers, but Hirvonen and Latvala responded with a few kilometres to go, and came home to give Ford the 1-2.
Hirvonen now leads Loeb in the drivers' championship while BP Ford Abu Dhabi has extended its lead over Citroen-Total in the manufacturers.
