Alex Higgins attacks referee during exhibition match

Snooker legend Alex Higgins has attacked a referee during an exhibition match against Jimmy White in Britain.

The friendly game in the town of Spennymoor ended in chaos last night when the official, Terry Riley, refused to carry on after being punched in the stomach.

Higgins threw the punch after Riley called a foul when the Belfast man touched the blue ball.

In 1986, Higgins was banned for a year for head-butting a match official.
