Sharapova crashes out of French Open

World number one Maria Sharapova has crashed out of the French Open after losing to Dinara Safina in the fourth round of the competition.
The Australian Open champion suffered a 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 defeat yesterday despite leading by 5-2 at one stage in the second set.
Safina now goes on to meet Elena Dementieva in the quarter-finals.
In the men's draw, top seed Roger Federer is through to the quarter-finals, after a straight-sets win over France's Julien Benneteau.
The Swiss star will now face Chile's Fernando Gonzalez as he bids to win the only Grand Slam title to elude him in his career so far.
