Monday, 10 November 2008
Ireland have missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Rugby League World Cup after their fairytale run in the competition came to an end this morning.
Andy Kelly's men were high in confidence after beating Samoa to reach the knockout stages of the tournament in Australia.
However, they were beaten 30-14 this morning by Fiji, who now go on to face the hosts for a place in the final.
Speaking afterwards, Kelly said he was impressed by the fighting spirit of the Irish, but admitted that they were outclassed by superior opposition.
